Florida International University (FIU) and Baptist Health South Florida are joining forces on a 100,000- square-foot academic health sciences and clinical facility. The Florida legislature appropriated $100 million in initial funding for the campus building, which will cost $212 million to build.

The State of Florida anticipates a shortage of 18,000 physicians by 2035. The alliance plans to create at least 22 graduate medical education programs targeting specialty areas experiencing a supply-and-demand gap. This partnership is a first for both FIU and Baptist Health.

Stantec will be providing architecture, medical planning, landscape architecture, sustainability consulting, and other specialty services. The firm previously worked with FIU in a civil and environmental engineering capacity for over a decade. This project marks the first FIU project for Stantec’s architecture and medical planning team.

Schematic design will kick off in January 2025 with construction completion expected in 2028.
